Washington State is an international leader in information technology. Northwest companies have also pioneered innovation in building energy efficiency and operational excellence. The opportunity to combine information technology and software development with building intelligence is the opportunity to create a new approach to energy efficiency. The SBC is where smart meets efficient.
Whether using utility interval meter data or building system performance data from a building automation system, the ability to transform data into actionable information is revolutionizing how energy efficiency happens in the built environment. SBC showcases products and tools that can analyze and visualize energy data that informs building owners and managers on the best way to achieve operational excellence in their facility.
The SBC houses data sets from various market verticals, including schools, universities, hospitals, retail, commercial real estate, and more, providing SBC visitors with an opportunity to see how this works for buildings just like theirs. For software tool developers, the SBC offers the opportunity to showcase the power of their tools in front of key stakeholders and customer groups.

Benchmark Support Services
With funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce, the Smart Buildings Center has created a Benchmark Support Services program that assists efforts to benchmark public and private commercial buildings in the state, better manage the collection and analysis of building performance data, and support state and local jurisdictions who undertake benchmark and disclosure efforts. We currently offer a suite of resources that help you benchmark a building with ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager®. The resources, including fact sheets, and training videos, take you through the entire process, from understanding benchmarking and its benefits, to understanding your results and producing reports to help you identify energy savings opportunities.
Accelerated Technology Deployment Projects
The SBC undertook a series of projects to demonstrate new technologies in real-world operating conditions within buildings in Washington State. A suite of topical reports and graphics were generated to help familiarize industry professionals with some key concepts in intelligent energy efficiency. We would like to thank Innovate Washington and the Puget Sound Regional Council, both of whom provided instrumental support with this program.
We invite you to read the compendium of case studies, reports, and infographics for an objective perspective of the opportunities and challenges facing buildings today.
