What is a Smart Building?
A smart building is a connected building. There is no one thing that makes a building smart or not smart, but rather a building becomes smarter by leveraging smart practices and technologies to improve building operations and occupant productivity and well-being. For some, this means automating processes to better control the building’s operations, connecting building systems to one another and to the internet to allow remote control and enable data mining and even artificial intelligence to improve building performance. Smart buildings leverage Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to communicate and analyze data that is used to control the building and optimize the building systems. Smart(er) buildings provide a myriad of benefits including greater efficiency and cost savings, decreased maintenance costs, increased productivity, tenant retention, and increased property value.

At Smart Buildings Exchange, we connect practitioners and end-users with information, technology and practices that make buildings smarter. Our 2021 agenda will address the ‘what, why and how’ for smart buildings. Our conference advisory committee consists of industry representatives from owners and managers to engineers, facility managers and architects. More information about the event’s dynamic conversational sessions will be available soon!
